CHEESE & VEGEMITE SCROLLS
These are quick and easy to make – and the kids will love them!
3 cups flour
3t baking powder
50g butter, chopped
1 ¼ cups milk
1 ½ cups grated cheese (I’d suggest tasty)
1 egg, beaten lightly
Vegemite (or Marmite)
Preheat the oven to 210°C. Place the flour and baking powder in a bowl.
Add the chopped butter and rub it into the flour using your finger tips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the centre and add the milk. Mix it together quickly to make a soft dough.
Tip the dough on to a lightly floured surface and roll out into a rectangle 30cm x 24cm
Spread Vegemite over the dough (this is easier if gently heated first). Brush the lightly beaten egg over and then sprinkle with the grated cheese.
Roll the dough from the longest side into a pinwheel and cut into 10 slices. Lay the slices on a baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
