Weight Gain during Pregnancy
Most women understand that along with pregnancy comes a certain level of weight gain. The tricky question is: how much should you expect to put on?
Most women who are pregnant with a single baby will gain between 8kg and 20kg. This large disparity between weights gained is due to many factors. Your initial weight and height, hormones, your baby’s growth and development and your eating patterns are all influential. Over or underweight pregnant women are at risk or harming both themselves and their baby. Caesarean delivery, preeclampsia, premature delivery and health problems can all be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight. It is important not to diet during pregnancy, as your baby needs the nutrients, but instead you should simply eat healthy and well-balanced meals. Exercise during pregnancy is still viable, particularly during the first and second trimester while your movement is less inhibited. |
